For ESE 2026, age is typically 21–30 years for General category, with relaxations for OBC, SC/ST and certain other categories as per UPSC rules.
Age relaxation for ESE follows Government rules: OBC usually +3 years, SC/ST +5 years, plus specific relaxations for certain groups.
ESE requires an engineering degree (B.E./B.Tech) in relevant disciplines or recognised equivalent qualifications such as AMIE/IETE or similar.
ESE is conducted for four main groups: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering; some allied branches may also qualify under these groups.
Recommended medical standards vary by department; candidates must be medically fit as per the detailed ESE notification and departmental rules.
