IFoS usually follows a 21–32 years band for General category with relaxations similar to UPSC CSE for OBC, SC/ST and PwBD.
Age relaxation and attempts depend strongly on category; PwBD candidates have special provisions as per IFoS notification.
IFoS attempts are effectively linked to UPSC Civil Services Prelims attempts, with category‑wise caps similar to CSE.
IFoS requires a Bachelor’s degree with at least one notified subject like Agriculture, Forestry, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Zoology, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or Engineering disciplines.
IFoS has specific physical standards and includes a compulsory walking test (for example, 25 km in 4 hours for males, 14 km for females, as per rules and case law).
